Odds and Predictions: Who Will Advance Through the Quaterfinals and Ultimately Win the 2022 World Cup?
With the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals and World Cup semifinals now wrapped up, the current odds with popular sportsbooks for the overall win more or less have the two sides looking like they’ve got a dead even shot at winning:

As we saw, this World Cup has delivered many upsets in both the finals and group stages.
Of course, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise to anyone when Argentina (+500 at the time) managed to beat the Netherlands (+1200 at the time) in Netherlands vs Argentina. But other fixtures were far less clear-cut and saw genuine World Cup contenders knocked out before even having a chance to reach the World Cup semifinals.
This was the case in France vs England. Since the beginning of the 2022 World Cup, bookmakers and fans alike had given both sides more or less equal chances to win. And even if France managed to edge ahead as the favorite according to most sportsbook odds in the lead up, no one was ruling England out for the win. In fact, given the current squad’s performance throughout the group stages and the round of 16, it came as something of a surprise for us to see France vs England end with a win for France.
The Road to the World Cup Quarterfinals – The Round of 16 Deciders
Ahead of the quarterfinals, we had the first of the knockout stage matches in the round of 16.
- Netherlands vs United States
- Argentina vs Australia
- France vs Poland
- England vs Senegal
- Brazil vs South Korea
- Portugal vs Switzerland
- Japan vs Croatia
- Morocco vs Spain
And while there weren’t too many surprises in these games, we did see a handful of odds-defying performances. This was most apparent in Morocco vs Spain, where Morocco managed to keep the game deadlocked 0-0 right up until the bitter end, thus forcing a penalty shootout which they easily won.
This shock performance by Morocco was made all the more shocking when they then faced off in Morocco vs Portugal and, against all odds once again, run away with the win.
