Expectations were high among many fans after last season’s successes, but the team seems to have regressed in almost all areas. The defense, in particular, seems to have found that its quality has fallen off the edge of a cliff at times. After the changes in the offseason, there was still a belief that the talent in the back would be enough to keep Green Bay competitive, but that faith has turned out to be misplaced for the most part.

A lot of that faith rode on De’Vondre Campbell and Rasul Douglas managing to maintain the lofty standards that they shocked many people with last season, but it was always going to be a risky bet putting so many eggs in that basket, and the gamble hasn’t really paid off. Their large paychecks make the bad mark on general manager Brian Gutekunst’s record even rougher.

It was expected that the team would be better prepared for the transition after Davante Adams left, but the offense seems to have been completely caught off guard by the change. Anything other than regression was always unlikely when the team still relies so heavily on Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, who will be 40 by the time the new year comes in.
