Jaguars vs. Texans 01/01/23 Prediction and Odds
Jaguars vs. Texans 01/01/23 sees two out-of-form teams face down one another on New Year’s Day at the NRG Stadium in the hopes of salvaging something from their seasons.
Jaguars vs. Texans 01/01/23 Preview Games and History
This is a very new matchup, with the teams only playing each other for the first time in 2002 when the Texans beat Jacksonville 21-19. Since then, they’ve played 41 times, with Houston winning the lion’s share of the matchups against the Jaguars.
Currently, the overall record stands 28-13 in the Texan’s favor, and they’ve unsurprisingly scored more points overall with an impressive 923 accumulated in matched compared to the Jaguar’s 775.
Jaguars vs. Texans Odds and Statistics
There is no more one-sided matchup in the last few years than the Jaguars vs. Texans game. You have to go back 10 fixtures to find the last time that Jacksonville won this game, which was a 45-7 victory in 2017.
Since 2011 Houston have absolutely dominated their games against Jacksonville, losing only 4 matches despite the sides playing twice a year. The 2019 26-3 victory was a particularly tough loss to swallow for Jaguars fans who had to watch their side only just manage to accumulate a single point.
Despite the frequency with which these sides play one another in the modern day, it’s always been in the regular season. They’re yet to play each other in the postseason.
Their last game was a familiar story to Jaguars fans, who once again saw their side struggle to rack up points with the final whistle going with the score at 13-6.
The Jaguars vs. Texans 01/01/23 fixture could be an opportunity for Jacksonville to finally break the streak if Houston’s form this season is anything to go by.
Jaguars vs. Texans 01/01/23 NFL Betting Tips: The Season So Far
Jaguars
There’s still a chance for the Jaguars to finish with a 0.500 record here come the season’s end. Of course, management won’t be happy that such hopes have relied so much on QB Trevor Lawrence, who’s having an astounding sophomore year, but at least the offense is ticking along nicely, thanks to their star man. He shows the kind of form that makes you wonder whether he won’t just be a star of Jacksonville in the future but of the whole NFL.
His chemistry with tight end Evan Engram looks to be flourishing too and could for a dynamite partnership if they were allowed to continue developing in each other’s presence. Their combinations in the win against the Titans were particularly eye-catching.
If they can keep it up, then (and this is surprising considering their negative record so far this season) the division title is still a possibility for the Jaguars. But the defense will need to start pulling its weight soon, as there’s only so much one team can rely on one player or combination, but there’s no question they’re still in the running as long as Lawrence continues his form.
Texans
The less said about the Texans’ season, the better. Their record of 1-12-1 is easily the league’s worst and spells out a season of embarrassment for Houston.
Things haven’t been helped by the uncertainty at QB, with this problem still not being resolved, even with its clear urgency at the midpoint of last year. There isn’t a clear player in the squad for the position in the years to come. And whoever has taken on the role this season has struggled to achieve mediocrity.
It’s a problem that needs an urgent solution if they’re not to have another wasted 2023.
