The Buccaneers seem to have really taken their foot off the pedal this year, especially in the offense. Their average points scored is almost half this year for parallel weeks of good form last year. They consistently struggle to make it into the red zone, so their points per game is a meager 16 in 2022. We really expected to see some improvement in this area by now, but no one seems to be able to figure out how to push things forward.

The performances are just getting worse, too, the defense seems to be imploding at times to match the offense’s inadequacy, and the losses are piling up much faster than fans would like. The 21-3 loss to the Panthers was especially shocking, not just for the awful points total but also because their opponents barely had anything to play for after having a similarly dismal season.

But the defense also has its good moments, especially when not shackled with injuries. They’re the main reason good moments have cropped up here and there, but Tampa Bay just can’t get a good run of form going.

Yet everything is saved by the lack of competition in the NFC South, which the Buccaneers still top.

Cardinals

Expectations for the Cardinals were never sky-high this season, but it still feels like the side has played below its potential most weeks. Of course, a 4-9 record isn’t the end of the world, but it would’ve been nice to at least have seen a clearer strength come out in the side, even if the overall unit was never going to set the world ablaze.

The recent news that Kyler Murray’s knee has taken some serious damage won’t be good news to Arizona fans, but hopes of reaching the postseason have already been given up for the most part. It’s possible that the damage could go past this season for the QB, though, which will have Arizona even worrying for the long term, which at least gives them something to do whilst they wait for this season to peter out.

There’s a general sense of limbo around the Cardinals, who’ve spent much of this season looking devoid of identity and unable to execute the details well in games. Hopefully, there’ll be a big shakeup during the offseason to breathe some fresh life into Arizona in the hope they look renewed when the 2023 season kicks off.
