La Liga Season Round-Up for This Week 22
With La Liga 2023-24 now done and dusted, our La Liga score predictions will be taking a pause until the 2024-25 season gets underway this August.
As for the final results, there aren’t too many surprises here for anyone who’s been following the latter half of the season. But for those who missed it, here’s a quick recap of how things played out.
La Liga 2023-24 Champion Predictions — Real Madrid
While Barcelona might have been the defending champions this year, any hopes of following up with a back-to-back repeat soon slipped away once the season got underway. Quite simply, Real Madrid was just too strong, pulling way ahead in points to the point where the championship title was more or less decided by the middle of the season.
La Liga 2023-24 Relegation Odds — Cadiz, Almeria, Granada
Much like Real Madrid’s dominance at the top of the table, the relegation odds started cementing themselves well before the end of the season, particularly for Almeria and Granada, who both finished the season with just 21 points. Granada, in particular, had an especially shocking season, finishing with a deplorable goal average of -41.
Rounding out the relegation spots, 18th place took a little longer to settle. But as we pulled into the last quarter of the season, it too started to look like a sure thing. And, to no one’s surprise, with the 2023-24 season closed, Cadiz is down and out.
La Liga 2023-24 UEFA Qualification Predictions — Real Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Atletico Madrid
There’s not much point reiterating what happened with Real Madrid this year. With an almost guaranteed title very early on, they’d also secured a fully guaranteed UEFA berth well before they should have.
The battle for second and third was maybe a little close, although defending champs Barcelona held their own and finished comfortably in front of Girona.
As for the final qualifiers slot, that was another case of the dust settling before it should have. Atletico Madrid finished the season comfortably with 76 points, 8 points in front of their nearest challenger.
Premier League Season Round-Up for This Week 22
Finishing one week ahead of La Liga, our Premier League score predictions will also be taking a summer pause until the 2024-25 season kicks off on August 17.
Unlike La Liga, however, the 2023-24 English Premier League season was a little more closely contested right up until the final games. Or, at least, it was as far as the top of the table is concerned. For some of our relegated teams, their fate was sealed much earlier than they might have liked — but more on that soon.
Premier League 2023-24 Champion Predictions — Manchester City
After a hat-trick of Premier League championship wins leading into the 2023-24 season, Manchester City sealed their fourth straight EPL win in a row.
That alone is already impressive enough. However, had they not finished runner-up in 2019-20 to Liverpool, this season’s championship victory would have been their seventh straight win. Still, 6 out of 7 is still exceptionally impressive.
Of course, while their dominance in terms of Premier League title wins is unquestionable, their win this season didn’t come easily. In fact, the final points tally was so close that just two points separated them from second-placed Arsenal.
Premier League 2023-24 Relegation Odds — Luton Town, Burnley, Sheffield United
Unlike the tight competition at the top of the table, 20th-placed Sheffield United already knew its fate well before the season’s end drew near. With just three wins for the whole season and an abysmal (but slightly funny) goal average of -69, the EPL dream is over for Sheffield United.
Things weren’t much better for 19th-place finisher Burnley. While their goal average was well ahead of Sheffield’s (-37), they only managed five wins for the whole season, leaving them with a paltry 24 points at the end of the season.
Finally, in 18th place and rounding out the relegation slots, Luton Town didn’t do much better, either. Their season ended with just six wins and eight draws for a total of 26 points.
Premier League 2023-24 UEFA Qualification Predictions — Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa
When it came to taking out the #1 and #2 spots, there wasn’t too much question that it would be Manchester City and Arsenal. Both finished well ahead of their nearest rivals, with seven points separating Arsenal from third place.
As for third place, there again wasn’t too much competition as the season wore on. Liverpool finished 14 points in front of fourth-placed Ason Villa, who had a much tougher time holding onto its UEFA qualification after finishing just 2 points ahead of 5th-placed Tottenham.
