Interim Coach Steve Wilks has worked a minor miracle in Carolina, leaving his team in a position to still win the NFC South, and best of all, it’s in their own hands. He’s certainly been helped out by the relative lack of competition in the division, but we shouldn’t undermine the crucial role that he’s played in turning this team around.

When he came in, the side had won just 1 of their first 5 games. He’s now chasing a winning record for his side under his tutelage, and one can’t help but wonder just where they’d be had he been in charge at the beginning of the season.

The Buccaneers still have their own claim to the division title, though, so there’s no need for Carolina to get carried away yet. Yes, they’ve improved vastly, but they need to focus on building on that to see how far Wilks can really take them. It’d be a surprise if he’s not offered a permanent role.

Saints

The NFC South looks out of the reach of New Orleans now, but it’s impressive that they still vaguely remained in the running for so long. Of course, we’d mainly attribute this to the poor quality in NFC South rather than anything the Saints have done on the field. But still, it’s impressive that a side with so much uncertainty managed to stay in the discussion for so long.

Things will probably be out of their hands come the final day of the season but hopefully, they’ve started looking at QB options for the future.
