The 2023 F1 Singapore Grand Prix is scheduled to be decided this September 17 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, where it has been held since 2008 when the F1 made its return to Singapore.

Famous for being the first Formula 1 Grand Prix night race, the F1 Singapore GP is known for its challenging track and frequent wet conditions owing to the Singaporean climate.

The 2022 edition saw Sergio Perez for Red Bull claim the #1 spot, followed in second and third by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, both for Ferrari.

The course record for the most wins here is held by Sebastien Vettel with 5 wins between 2011-2019, followed closely by Lewis Hamilton with 4 wins between 2009-2018.

As for the constructors, Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes each have four wins at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix. However, one of Ferrari’s wins was in 1970, prior to the construction of the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Let’s take a closer look at what we can expect in this year’s edition of the 2023 F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

F1 Singapore GP Marina Bay Street Circuit Information and Analysis

Singapore F1 Prediction Track Details

The Marina Bay track in Singapore is one of the most challenging, unforgiving circuits on the F1 calendar, characterized by exceptionally bumpy sections, tight corners, and high and harsh curbs that can damage the car. In short, this is a track requiring massive physical and mental endurance from the drivers.

This is further complicated by the hot, humid Singaporean climate. Being close to the equator (just 130km north of it, or about 80 miles), Singapore often experiences high humidity. And while September is far from the wettest month, seasonal averages still suggest a 40% chance of rainfall at any given time.

This climate was on full show in the 2022 edition, which was delayed by an hour due to extreme wet weather conditions. The race then unfolded on a wet but drying track, although it was interrupted multiple times by the safety car.

The 2022 qualifiers were also marked by rainfall, although track conditions improved for Q3, with drivers eventually switching over to slicks. But, for reference, Charles LeClerc, who qualified for pole position, only managed a 1:49.412, while the course record at the Marina Bay Street Circuit is 1:41.905, set by Kevin Magnussen in 2018.

For the 2023 edition of the F1 Singapore Grand Prix, the track has been reprofiled. The section of track that ran between turns 15-20 has been turned into a long straight, meaning we should expect the 2023 edition to be a relatively fast race.

F1 Singapore Grand Prix Odds to Win — Who to Watch

Here are a few of the drivers to keep an eye on in the 2023 F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull)

The absolute domination that Max and the Red Bull team have shown this year make him a hot favorite everywhere he races. Save for some sort of disaster, such as his lockup in the wet 2022 conditions, expect to see him on the podium.

Sergio Perez (Red Bull)

Currently sitting at number 2 in the 2023 GP season rankings, and having taken the win at the 2022 F1 Singapore Grand Prix, Perez has shown he’s got the goods to be a serious contender at this year’s edition.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most successful drivers at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. And while he hasn’t taken a win since 2018, he’s still proving to be fiercely competitive — he’s currently fourth in the season rankings, and finished 3rd in the 2022 F1 Singapore Grand Prix.

Charles LeClerc (Ferrari)

Qualifying fastest during the 2022 edition and finishing the race in second position, Charles LeClerc has prove he has what it takes to perform here. And while there’s a fair gap between him and the other top contenders in terms of overall season performance, don’t be surprised if he at least makes the podium this time around.

Prediction F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2023

The prediction for the F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2023 is:

  1. Max Verstappen
  2. Sergio Perez
  3. Lewis Hamilton

For constructors, it’s hard to go past Red Bull as the absolute favorite to take the 2023 F1 Singapore Grand Prix. With an unbroken winning streak since Brazil last year, it’s going to take a miracle for any other team to take the crown. But, if another team is going to do it, we’re looking towards Mercedes or Ferrari as the favorites.
