A staggering tally for both teams!

It’s not just the sheer quantity of their matchups that has helped forge such an intense rivalry here, but also their constant sharing of division – initially the AFL Western Conference and later the AFC West after the AFL-NFL merger.

The early days of this series don’t make it easy to read for Denver fans. The first 8 games all went in Kansas’ favor. The Broncos broke this streak for one game and then would have to wait for another 11 games for victory! The Broncos then got their second victory before losing 6 in a row again.

Things started evening out in the 1970s, but a 5-or-so-game winning streak for either side remained common. Despite that huge head start that Kansas built up, the series is actually relatively even overall at 70-55, but in 2015 this looked a lot more even still. Unfortunately, Denver has returned to its roots and lost the last 14 games in the series!

Denver never looked too exciting during preseason anyway, but things went from bad to worse as the injury list continued to pile up. No team has been hit as hard as the Broncos in this regard.
Players have been asked to show an extreme amount of versatility to fill the gaps, but there’s only so far that a team is going to go when both its offense and defense are patched up with special team players.

A worrying injury to Russell Wilson threatens to derail things even further. A poor 4-10 record could yet begin to look worse as the season wraps.

Chiefs

Kansas is on fire. They’re scoring points seemingly at will, and they almost always start off games strongly.

A look of complacency has started to seep in, though, which perhaps won’t matter too much as they steamroll teams in the regular season but is unlikely to be conducive to success in the playoffs.

The special teams and defense need to up their game slightly if this side is going to make it to the Super Bowl, but there’s no doubt the ability is there, and the 11-3 record speaks for itself.
