49ers vs. Raiders 01/01/23 Prediction and Odds
In the upcoming 49ers vs. Raiders 01/01/23 game, one of football’s hottest teams travels not far down the road to Las Vegas on New Year’s Day as the Raiders hold on in the hopes of achieving a positive record this season.
49ers vs. Raiders 01/01/23 Preview Games and History
The Battle of the Bay started when the Raiders were still located in Oakland and were essentially neighbors to the 49ers in San Francisco. The two sides are still relatively close to one another, with the Raiders now in Las Vegas though.
Their geography isn’t the only thing that’s close, though, with the all-time series currently poised at 7 victories apiece. Their total of just 14 games played against each is so low because they only meet once every four years due to playing in opposite divisions.
49ers vs. Raiders 01/01/23 Odds and Statistics
Although these two sides are in different conferences, they’ve never met in a postseason game. The way things are scheduled, they could only meet each other in the postseason if both made it to the Super Bowl.
Preseason games used to be played fairly regularly between the sides but one such fixture got out of hand in 2011 when a confrontation between fans in a parking lot escalated into a shooting, and the NFL quickly moved to ban such meetings. The preseason games look set to become a fixture again now that the Raiders have relocated though.
Despite the lack of post-season history between the sides, there have been some big matches between them. The claim for the largest victory is held by both sides, with San Francisco winning by a 31-point margin in 1970 and Las Vegas (formerly Oakland) winning 34-3 in 2018.
A result that’s anything like the latter would be a huge surprise in the 49ers vs. Raiders 01/01/23 victory, though.
49ers vs. Raiders 01/01/23 NFL Betting Tips: The Season So Far
49ers
Things are going great for San Francisco. They’re one of the best five sides currently playing football and wouldn’t look out of place at all in the Superbowl should things go their way.
The emergence of LB Dre Greenlaw as a player not just with talent but also staying power and consistency has been a welcome boost to the squad 4 years after he was first signed. Having such a skilled player spend so much time in the injury room for the past few seasons has been a point of frustration for 49ers fans and his emergence as someone who can be relied on is a pleasant surprise.
The pain of Jimmy Garoppolo’s foot injury in game week 13 has now subsided, and it’s clear the confidence is still present even after that hit. Having the NFC West wrapped up already is nice as it allows management to start thinking about the path through the postseason, although the remaining postseason games are still useful for making sure confidence is as high as it was when Garoppolo was first injured.
Raiders
Josh McDaniels has had lots of twists and turns to chew on in his first season as a coach, with the Raiders showing their fans a good time often but also frustrating many with their unmatched inconsistency. The last-minute win against the Patriots showed just how exciting such a formula could become when it goes your way.
The playoffs are still in reach, but Las Vegas is going to need the luck to go their way during the last few weeks of the season.
